miraDry® Sweat Treatment Toronto
It’s easy for people who sweat very little to underestimate the devastating effects of daily armpit embarrassment. If you must overthink your wardrobe regularly, hesitate to raise your arms, and avoid getting close to people because of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), then the arrival of a safe, non-surgical solution to stop sweat in Toronto will get you excited. In fact, this innovative technology could change your life. And the best part is, it’s a natural, drug-free treatment that doesn’t require any injections or a prescription. We’re going to give you an in-depth look here at miraDry®, the sweating cure that’s taking the world by storm.
First, what wouldn’t you give to throw away prescription antiperspirants, clothing protectors, and worries about wet stains on clothes . . . forever? If you’re like many people who experience more sweating than average, you know the struggles of paying for expensive products to combat it and avoiding certain clothing colours (no brights or whites for you!), and you relate to the awkwardness of avoiding high-fives. Have you ever left a hot blazer on at the office all summer or felt painfully distracted when you gave a work presentation? If you’ve been going out of your way to hide your sweat problem, you’re not alone. This issue is common, and until now, medications, injections, and even surgery were the only options.
The other options can be disappointing
The worst part is, while some of these come with side effects, they don’t even offer permanent, reliable results. Imagine a series of incisions or injections in your underarm that merely reduce, but don’t cure your sweating. Thankfully it doesn’t need to be this way anymore. miraDry® is a non-invasive laser treatment that targets the source of sweating without damaging your skin, requiring downtime, or leaving scars. You don’t need a prescription; just an hour of your time for a lifetime of freedom.
Frequently Asked miraDry® Questions
miraDry® Toronto: How does this incredible technology work to stop sweat?
This device uses electromagnetic energy to destroy sweat glands that are working overtime to keep you damp, sticky, and experiencing body odour. The glands are shut down entirely and never regenerate. This factor makes results impactful, and patients report very high satisfaction after just one treatment. Let us explain a little of the science behind it:
It’s helpful to know that while this amazing device is relatively new on the scene, the microwave technology behind it has been used for well-established medical practices for many years. The fields include cardiology, general surgery, cosmetics, oncology, and urology, to name a few.
This treatment was cleared in 2011 by the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and approved to treat primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating). It has now spread rapidly to clinics in over 50 countries around the world, and Dr. Torgerson’s clinic in Toronto is pleased to be one of the first in Canada to offer it. In 2015, it was also approved to eradicate all shades of underarm hair, which makes it the first and only device that can permanently remove hair and stop sweat in Toronto. For many of our patients, hair removal is an unexpected but fantastic side effect, as they come to us for hyperhidrosis treatment but gain the freedom of never having to shave or wax under their arms again. Smooth and dry. That can be your reality too!
What happens during your session?
The device’s microwave technology preferentially targets the sweat glands in the dermal fat layer under the skin. It does so with such precision that only the target structures are destroyed, while all surrounding tissue remains protected, intact, and healthy. Localized thermolysis describes the precision heat energy that eradicates only target cells. It’s non-ablative, meaning you won’t see redness or any damage on the surface of the skin, and no downtime is required. To ensure your absolute comfort, you may have topical analgesics or a local anaesthetic applied to the underarm skin.
You’ll recline comfortably in our office while your technician prepares the treatment area under your arm, then applies the device. A handpiece delivers the energy while gently pulling the tissue through suction and cooling it simultaneously. The cooling on surrounding skin along with a topical numbing agent means that patients don’t feel heat or pain, and their skin shows no sign of injury after the procedure.
When the targeted sweat glands receive the energy, they’re instantly destroyed, and the body will naturally clear the waste material away. The process to stop sweat in Toronto is so straightforward that the in-office treatments can be booked over a lunch hour or before or after work, making miraDry® convenient for many busy people. After your session, you’ll go right back to normal daily activities and can hit the gym within a short time frame – usually one week. Adverse effects are minor and rare. Some clients report tingling or numbness in the arm or axillae, while mild sensitivity can last for a week after the procedure. Some patients report the immediate cessation of sweating, while others will see a long-term reduction of between 80% and 90% on average. In most cases, just one session is sufficient to achieve optimal results, but in rare situations, a follow-up appointment to target additional glands is beneficial.
*Note: You don’t need to worry that you’ll be unable to sweat in general or be unable to regulate your body’s temperature because of reduced underarm sweat. The axillary glands represent only about 2% of your total sweat glands, and shutting them down has shown no effect on either thermoregulation or other areas compensating for their absence.

What can you do to stop sweat in Toronto naturally?
Many of our patients are health-conscious, and it’s vital for them to avoid ingesting toxins or unnecessary chemicals. The past options to control underarm sweat included curettage (cutting out glands under the arm – ouch!), injections of neuromodulators, aluminum-based antiperspirants requiring prescriptions, and even anticholinergic medications, which act systemically to tell your body to stop sweating. Finding a safe, natural cure that you can feel good about may have been tough before, but that’s no longer the case. miraDry® is safe and natural, with no incisions, stitches, drugs, or scars. You’ll see the results nearly instantly and none of the effects you don’t want.
There are a few other health tips we can give you to incorporate into your sweat-free lifestyle, before or after your miraDry® treatment:
- Natural deodorant. Maybe you’ve always wanted to switch to an aluminum-free, “healthy” deodorant but they’ve not been able to match your sweat and odour issues. After miraDry® treatment, you can stop applying any product to your body that you’re not comfortable with. You won’t need the heavy-duty stuff anymore. Products containing tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, and baking soda are said to naturally fight bacteria that lead to odour and absorb excess moisture.
- Drink water. It may sound counter-intuitive to hydrate more when your body is pumping out moisture, but plenty of water consumption daily helps you lower your core temperature naturally, and that reduces sweating.
- Reduce stress. Easier said than done, right? You may already be aware that chronic stress can wreak havoc on your body systems, and it can lead to increased sweat and odour as well. Perspiration caused by stress comes from the apocrine glands, and the sweat they produce contains more protein and lipids than that of the eccrine glands. These substances encourage bacterial growth and lead to the aroma known as B.O. (body odour).
- Switch to herbal tea. Did you know that some studies suggest a high intake of coffee and caffeine can lead to more sweating? This chemical triggers the sympathetic nervous system, and that leads to perspiration. If you’re a coffee addict, don’t panic! A helpful change could involve just cutting down on coffee to see if that helps.
