Hair Restoration for Women
Hair loss for women can be especially unwanted and embarrassing
While there are many causes of thinning hair in women, balding is never as acceptable for women as it is for men. Men can opt to shave their heads, but for women, loss of hair can be very emotionally painful to deal with. Thick hair is associated with beauty, and thin hair has never been considered ideal. So maybe you’re considering a hair restoration process for women.
What causes hair loss in women?
There are many reasons that women find themselves dealing with hair loss. Some women just naturally have thin hair, and maybe that’s something they want to correct, but there are other medical reasons for loss of hair.
Some women experience what is called Traction Alopecia, which is the loss of hair based on the way they style or comb their hair. For some women, hair loss is a result of hormone imbalances connected with pregnancy, menopause, or birth control pills. Other medications and diseases such as thyroid problems can also cause hair loss.
Yo-yo dieting, stress, and iron deficiencies can also lead to unwanted hair thinning. Some women suffer from Alopecia Areata, also known as female pattern baldness, wherein hair follicles stop producing hair. This can occur on top of the head, around the crown, and in general, all-over thinning.
How will I know if I’m a good candidate for a hair restoration procedure?
A visit with Dr. Cory Torgerson is the best way to find out if NeoGraft hair transplant is the right choice for you.
The good news is that many women have successfully undergone NeoGraft hair restoration without linear scarring! Eligibility can depend on the reasons why the particular woman is suffering from hair loss. Generally, doctors will perform a physical and evaluate the reasons for the loss. If the patient has a disease that will lead to subsequent hair loss after a transplant, it is unlikely she will be deemed a good candidate.
Also, if the patient has insufficient donor patches to provide a good harvest for the transplant, she will not likely be a good candidate. Some common circumstances that make a women a good candidate include traction alopecia, burns or injuries resulting in hair loss, if their pattern baldness resembles male pattern baldness, and if they are transplanting hair to replace what was lost in another surgery or to cover an incision or scar from another surgery.
What can I expect from hair restoration?
You can expect that Dr. Torgerson will give you an individualized treatment plan, with the right hair transplant surgery plan for you.
Pain should be minimal, as the procedure only requires a local anaesthetic. After the procedure, there is less recovery time required than previous transplant procedures required. You’ll be on your feet and feeling well in no time. Most patients find that they return to their normal activities in 2-3 days.
Your hair will show some growth, and then after a few weeks the transplanted follicles will shed. Over time, new hair growth should develop. It will take several months before this hair is back to your natural look, but the newly grown hair will look natural, because it is your own hair and is well worth the wait. Once you’ve made the decision to proceed, all the guidelines on what to expect during the procedure and post-treatment will be explained to you in detail at Dr. Torgerson’s Facial Cosmetic Clinic.
