Among all facial surgeries, rhinoplasty Toronto is likely one of the most intricate and complex procedures. For natural-looking aesthetic results, a nose job procedure requires advanced surgical techniques, meticulous attention to detail, and impeccable aesthetic vision.

What Is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?
Rhinoplasty is the medical term for a “nose job” or “nose reshaping.” The procedure is most often performed for cosmetic reasons, but it may also be necessary to improve breathing problems caused by an impact, an injury, or nose defects present from birth.
If you feel like your nose does not suit your face, a rhinoplasty in Toronto may be the right solution to reshape the nose and create harmony between your facial features.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty Surgery in Toronto?
Most patients choose to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure because they do not like the shape, size, or projection of their nose. As the central feature of the face, the nose plays a key role in overall facial harmony. Nasal flaws like a bridge hump, a bulbous tip, or an asymmetrical shape are impossible to hide or cover with makeup, which brings many of our patients to a rhinoplasty consultation.
If you are 18 years of age or older and are unhappy with the size or shape of your nose, rhinoplasty in Toronto may be the right option for you.
What Imperfections Does Rhinoplasty Surgery Address?
- Large nose: If your nose seems too large and out of balance with your other features, it can be corrected and reshaped during a nose job surgery in Toronto.
- Dorsal hump (nose bridge bump): Depending on the size and projection of the nose bump, smoothing it can enhance your features and dramatically improve your overall appearance.
- Unattractive nose tip: Some people dislike the shape of their nose tips, finding them either too large, bulbous, drooping, or pinched. With rhinoplasty surgery, our surgeons can reshape the cartilage within your nose tip to create a more balanced appearance.
- Long, large, wide, or misshapen nostrils: Many patients choose to undergo rhinoplasty to correct the shape of their nostrils. If you find that your nostrils are too large, too long, too wide, or asymmetrical, rest assured that our surgeons can alter them to better suit your face.
- Other issues (concave bridge or asymmetry): For other cosmetic issues like lack of volume on the bridge or an asymmetrical, crooked nose, a custom rhinoplasty procedure can be performed to add volume, straighten, or correct an asymmetrical nose structure.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost in Toronto?
Every rhinoplasty surgery is unique, with the exact procedure depending on the existing nose, patient concerns, and the desired outcome. The rhinoplasty price in Toronto can vary significantly, with a common nose job or rhinoplasty cost varying between $18,000 and $20,000. The cost of nose reduction will be different from the nose lift cost. Plus, if the surgery involves reshaping both cartilage and bone structure, the nose operation cost will be higher.
Is Rhinoplasty Covered by OHIP?
Rhinoplasty surgery is a cosmetic procedure and, therefore, is not covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). However, rhinoplasty is often combined with septoplasty – a surgery to address breathing issues or a deviated septum. In this case, the surgery may be partially covered by OHIP.
Types of Rhinoplasty Surgery in Toronto
Surgery Purpose: Cosmetic vs Functional Rhinoplasty
Most often, rhinoplasty is performed for cosmetic reasons. However, a nose job may be combined with functional improvements to correct breathing issues or restore a natural look to the nose after trauma.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
Most rhinoplasty surgeries in Toronto are performed for cosmetic reasons, whether to alter the nose shape, reduce its size, improve its projection, or adjust the shape of nostrils.
Functional Rhinoplasty or Septorhinoplasty
A functional rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to resolve a structural problem within the nose and restore healthy breathing. Many times, the function of the nose and its appearance are improved during a single surgery, in a procedure known as septorhinoplasty.
Reconstructive Rhinoplasty
Congenital deformities, previous surgeries, or nasal trauma may necessitate reconstructive rhinoplasty. During the surgery, the surgeon may utilize natural tissues from the nose, ear, or rib cartilage to reconstruct nasal structure and restore a natural nose shape. For rhinoplasty patients with limited natural tissues, synthetic implants are also an option.
Previous Surgeries: Primary vs. Revision Rhinoplasty
We often see patients who had a rhinoplasty surgery done elsewhere and aren’t satisfied with the outcomes. In such situations, patients may seek a secondary revision surgery.
Primary Rhinoplasty
Primary rhinoplasty is the first cosmetic nose surgery for the patient. Primary rhinoplasty usually involves a simpler procedure than subsequent surgeries, as the surgeon does not need to deal with excessively removed tissues or existing scar tissue.
Revision Rhinoplasty
This complex procedure addresses issues such as scar tissue, suboptimal aesthetics, and compromised structures after the initial surgery. Revision rhinoplasty often requires grafts from the nose, ear, or rib cartilage.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Custom ethnic rhinoplasty is performed to alter the ethnic shape of the nose. When performed with an artistic eye, these changes are subtle and work to enhance other ethnic features, creating a more balanced and attractive look.
Persian Rhinoplasty in Toronto
Our surgeons frequently address the aesthetic concerns of their Persian clients in Toronto, who look to refine their nasal bridges and reduce the size of their noses.
Asian Rhinoplasty in Toronto
Asian rhinoplasty in Toronto is tailored to patients with Asian ancestry, with the procedure often involving elevating the nasal bridge and enhancing nasal tip definition.
African-American Rhinoplasty
African-American rhinoplasty is focused on refining the nose’s balance and proportions, while considering the distinct characteristics of African-American ethnicities, including a broader structure, flatter bridges, and thicker skin.
Surgical Technique: Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty
All rhinoplasty surgeries in Toronto are performed with either an open or a closed technique.
Open Rhinoplasty in Toronto
Open rhinoplasty is a traditional method of nose reshaping, which involves making an incision in the columella – the strip of tissue between your nostrils. While many people fear open rhinoplasty due to the possibility of scarring, there is nothing to worry about. The incision is placed where it will be virtually invisible once healed.
Open rhinoplasty in Toronto is often performed on patients who require more extensive corrections, especially to the nasal tip. The open technique enables plastic surgeons to have more control over the surgery and results, minimizing the risk of needing additional corrections later on.
Closed Rhinoplasty in Toronto
Closed or “scarless” rhinoplasty in Toronto involves hiding incisions within the nostrils, with no visible scars outside of the nose. While this is an advantage, closed rhinoplasty is not appropriate for extensive corrections to the nose tip or bridge. The surgeon will evaluate each patient carefully to determine whether they are a good candidate for closed rhinoplasty.
Preservation Rhinoplasty in Toronto
Preservation rhinoplasty is a relatively new technique offered by select nose surgeons in Toronto. The technique focuses on preserving the existing nose structure as much as possible. For instance, instead of removing aspects of the nose’s framework to correct the dorsal hump, the surgeon may reshape or reposition the cartilage and secure it with sutures. Preservation rhinoplasty can be carried out using either open or closed rhinoplasty techniques.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Patients who require only minor revisions can enjoy great results without undergoing a full nose job surgery. With the custom application of dermal fillers, the surgeon can visually raise the nose tip, smooth a minor hump, or fill in the depressions on a nose tip.
Rhinoplasty Surgery Procedure: What to Expect
1. Preparing for Surgery
When preparing for your nose job, you can make future recovery much easier by starting to take care of your body a few weeks in advance. This means no smoking, no alcohol, no drugs, eating a healthy diet, and drinking plenty of fluids. You may be asked to stop taking certain blood-thinning supplements and medications to avoid excessive bleeding and speed up healing. You will also need to undergo a few tests to make sure you are ready for surgery.
2. Anesthesia
Most patients undergo rhinoplasty surgery under general anesthesia, while some may require only local anesthetic. Dr. Torgerson will discuss your anesthesia options in detail to find the safest and most comfortable solution.
3. During the Surgery
Rhinoplasty surgery takes several hours, but you will not remember it, as you will be under anesthesia. The exact surgical procedure is customized for each patient and may involve bone and cartilage reshaping, cartilage grafts, and other techniques to achieve your desired aesthetic outcome.
4. After the Surgery
Once your nose job is complete, you will be transferred to a recovery room and will stay there until the anesthesia wears off. You will be able to leave the surgical facility to go home on the same day, so you will need to arrange for a friend or a family member to drive you there. We recommend that you arrange for someone to stay with you at home for at least a day to assist you while you recover.
What Are the Risks of Rhinoplasty?
As with any other cosmetic surgery, rhinoplasty carries certain risks, including bad reactions to anesthesia, infections, poor scarring, breathing difficulties, or poor aesthetic outcomes. Working with an experienced, certified facial plastic surgeon will ensure a beautiful outcome for your rhinoplasty surgery and minimize any associated risks.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline
Day of Your Nose Job
Once you get home after your rhinoplasty surgery, you will likely want to rest and recover for the rest of the day. Resting in a reclining chair or sleeping with your head elevated is recommended to minimize swelling. At this stage, swelling and bruising are expected, and you will have a nose “splint” for the first week or so.
1 Week After Rhinoplasty
Swelling will reach its maximum at around Day 3 after surgery and will begin to slowly subside by the end of Week 1. After 1 week, congestion will start to improve, and you will be able to remove the splint. At this point, some patients feel comfortable enough to return to work.
2 Weeks After Rhinoplasty
Most of the uncomfortable congestion is expected to resolve by Week 2, with swelling noticeably reduced. Some patients still experience minor swelling and bruising after 2 weeks, but most are ready to return to work. You will also be able to resume exercise at this point, including cardio and weight training.
3 Months After Rhinoplasty
At 3 months post-surgery, you will be able to fully return to your regular exercise regime, including strenuous exercise and contact sports. Your nose will continue taking shape for the next few months, but it should already look more natural, with all swelling nearly gone.
1 Year After Rhinoplasty
After 1 year, your nose shape should be stable and balanced, with the incision site faded enough to be nearly invisible. At this stage, most patients will see their final nose job results.
