SculpSure is a non-invasive body-contouring system intended for aesthetic lipolysis (fat reduction) of the flank and abdomen. This quick procedure takes 25 minutes, and it can destroy up to 24% of treated fat cells. SculpSure is the first laser treatment cleared by Health Canada for non-invasive fat reduction treatments, making it an ideal treatment for those who are looking to treat their trouble spots without the need of surgical intervention. In general, SculpSure patients are within a healthy range of their ideal body weight, but they want to target particular problematic areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. This treatment is a great non invasive option to target stubborn spots with no downtime, no anesthaesia, and no post operative treatments.
SculpSure works by engaging a controlled hypothermic 1060 nm wavelength to the body, targeting the fatty tissue. This wavelength is penetrated deep into the subcutaneous fat cells. This causes your body to eliminate the fat cells with minimal absorption in the dermis, allowing for a safe and effective treatment for all skin types. The heated wavelength establishes a controlled hyperthermic temperature of 42°C and 47°C, which causes injury to the adipose, without any damage to the dermal tissue. The damaged adipocytes will be absorbed and removed gradually by the body’s inflammatory process, and the volume of fat in the treatment area will decrease. Patients can expect to see results in approximately 6 weeks, with optimal results seen in 12 weeks.
SculpSure can target multiple areas during a single treatment with the application of multiple adjustable Sappire and bezel laser applicators that are built in with contact sensors. This device is placed over the areas of unwanted fat. Common treatment areas include the lower tummy, hips, outer thighs, inner thighs, arms, or inner knees.
Patients receiving SculpSure treatments should ensure that their skin is free of lotions and any other topicals prior to receiving their treatment. If necessary, clients with thick hair should shave or trim it the night before treatment. Patients should also exercise caution prior to their treatments by avoiding direct sun exposure to the area being treated and by notifying their SculpSure specialist of any history of photosensitivity disorders, impaired skin sensations, or melanoma. SculpSure patients have to wait 6 weeks before re treating the same area.
The SculpSure treatment is initially prepared with an assessment of the amount of fat to be treated on the desired treatment site, followed by marking of the area, which will serve as a treatment guideline when placing frames. Each patient will receive a customized treatment pattern for optimal results. Each applicator will be secured into an appropriately sized plastic frame. After the placement of the applicators, treatment will begin and will last 25 minutes. SculpSure also has a Contact CoolingTM system, which provides the patient with comfort during their procedure. Within a few minutes, you will feel intervals of deep warmth followed by cooling. This cooling system eliminates the painful temperature spikes during the treatment, and it remains consistently on to ensure that the temperature is well tolerated by the patient. Some patients may experience temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, and tissue firmness on the treatment sites. Tenderness may last up to 2 weeks. Patients are encouraged to gently massage the area twice a day for 5 to 10 minutes and are able to use a cold compress and/or acetaminophen to help relieve any discomfort. Many people resume normal daily activities, including exercise immediately post-treatment. Physical activity with proper hydration helps mobilize fat via the lymphatic system, which promotes the elimination process of the dead fat cells.
There is no associated pain in the technique, eliminating the need for the anaesthesia involved in receiving a treatment. Most patients find the procedure quite comfortable and are impressed with their treatment results.
