Eyelid Surgery 2019 Techniques

What are the types of eyelid surgery? If you’re considering doing something a little more invasive to tighten up eyelid skin and smooth away some puffy eye bags, you may start with a search for blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery online. What you’ll soon see is that there are more than a couple of ways to go about it, depending on the patient’s needs and the facial surgeon’s preferred techniques.

Your region of the world can influence the methods used. In Canada, blepharoplasty surgery is commonly done to remove hooded upper eyelids, open more space in the upper eye, remove bulging lower eye fat pads, remove skin from the lower eyelid, or create a defined, double eyelid for patients with a monolid.

This surgery can also be beneficial for older clients who need excess eyelid skin removed to improve vision.

The before and after results for various eyelid surgeries may confuse you if they don’t match up to your particular needs. The best first step you can take is to meet with an oculoplastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon in Toronto and let an expert tell you which method of eyelid rejuvenation is best suited to your goals.

What does a blepharoplasty cost in Canada?
Most people like to know what they’re getting into before considering a high-priced procedure. The problem is, online searches will rarely offer your exact price. You’ll find that costs vary somewhat among practitioners and depending on your personalized surgical plan. Patients can choose to have just the upper or the lower lids treated. Having both operated on together will increase the price somewhat, but not usually double the amount.

Overall costs for eyelid surgery in Toronto usually range between $4,000 and $8,000 plus taxes. (Prices are subject to change over time.) Dr. Torgerson knows that budgeting and planning for cosmetic surgery are essential for many clients, so his Toronto Facial Cosmetic Surgery Centre offers medical financing options through two reputable companies: Credit Medical and Medicard. Anyone can quickly and easily apply through their websites, which makes cosmetic surgery prices a whole lot more convenient.

Recovery Tips

What do eyelid surgeons in Toronto recommend for stress-free, optimal healing? Here are a few of our general tips to keep you comfortable and recovering quickly after eyelid surgery.

If you have only the upper or lower eyelids treated, you can likely return to non-strenuous work within one week. Your facial tissue is vascular and sensitive, which means that swelling will be the main issue you’re waiting on as you heal. Most swelling around the eyes resolves within the first week, and roughly 90% of the swelling will dissipate by the 2-week mark. Your individual recovery time and restrictions will depend on your unique situation, so ask your surgeon what you can safely do after surgery. For most people, avoiding bending over, heavy lifting, sports, and working out is essential for 2 to 3 weeks.

It’s important to avoid increasing blood pressure in the face for the first 2 weeks, so we also recommend that you sleep and rest with your head elevated — propped up to roughly 35 degrees to 45 degrees — while you’re swollen.

Normal vision usually returns 24 to 48 hours after eyelid surgery, but some blurriness is normal due to watery eyes and inflammation in the area. We recommend that you ask friends and family for help or even hire someone to take care of household tasks, meal prep, and driving. That way you can relax and give your tired eyelids a break while they heal. A lubricating tear ointment may help with dryness, and your surgeon will likely provide drops or medication to apply to the eyes.

For comfort, cold compresses are often helpful during the first few days. Once your incisions have closed, your surgeon will permit you to apply makeup to the area if desired. A specialized concealer that hides bruising can be useful when returning to work, because sometimes bruises linger in the area long after you feel otherwise normal.

When the time is right, Dr. Torgerson recommends ColoreScience Corrector palette, available in 5 shades with SPF.

If you’re ready to talk about how eyelid surgery can benefit you, we’re happy to schedule your consultation. Dr. Torgerson will examine you, listen to your concerns, and make recommendations for your revitalized eyes. We look forward to hearing from you.
